Both Graco’s GX sprayers and Wagners SF23 airless sprayers do not come as standard with a full size paint manifold filter. The Graco GX’s have as standard only an onboard miniature pump filter. Whereas Graco’s larger airless sprayers are fitted as standard with a large bottle manifold filter. The GX range is meant to be an affordable airless sprayer for Painters & Decorators, so fitting a costly bottle manifold filter would make the sprayer too expensive for a lot of would-be purchasers. However, all airless spray systems can really could benefit from having a larger paint filter.  If the original GX filter were to choke up with paint, it will drastically reduce pump performance. It can also put the motor under unnecessary stress as it tries to overcome this resistance. If a manifold filter were fitted instead, you would have a huge cross-sectional area of filtration. This not only drastically reduces the chance of tip blockages, but it also helps iron out pulsation as the bottle design acts as a dampener reservoir. If you are looking to convert your Graco GX or Wagner SF23 sprayer for Air Assisted Airless spraying, you will be running with flat tips of smaller sizes, then you will definitely need the security of extra filtration.
